Drink up! Salt Water in the Morning
I wanted to share my favorite morning routine I first learned about from Aubrey Marcus reading his book “Own the Day”.
After your body has been dehydrated all night as you sleep, it is important to replenish your body with water, and kick start the digestive system, and replenish electrolytes.
THE MORNING GOODS AND WHAT I USE:
On an empty stomach, take a room temp/warm full glass of water, add a bit of salt and lemon and drink it down. Easy, right?
WATER: We all need water, and most of us don't get enough. So why not start your day replenishing your body with exactly what it needs first thing.
LEMON: You can use ½ a fresh squeezed lemon. Or I use 1-2 drops of an essential oil approved for internal use. Using a real lemon helps with gastrointestinal function by providing the stomach with acidity it requires for digestive functions.
Using lemon essential oil work differently then using the lemon juice.
According to Dr. David Wolfe, “lemon essential oil can help increase energy levels while aiding in mental clarity. This oil has also been known to help with heartburn, acne, gallstones, and respiratory issues.” Adding a few drops to your water in the morning “will activate your metabolism, balance pH levels and reverse inflammation.”
SALT: Un-refined salt is the key here, not just your regular table salt. Many people reach for pink Himalayan salt. But recently my cousin introduced me to Le Guerande salt. And I am hooked! (No this isn't an ad. We do a favorite things party each year and she brought this salt and I knew I had to try it! And now I am hooked too.)
This salt is unrefined, rich in minerals, natural and contains less sodium chloride. They harvest it in Southern Brittany in France on the Atlantic Ocean. It is naturally grey as it crystallizes on contact with the clay from which it takes its high trace element content. And it is DELCIOUS. In water, and in food. It has a softer salt palette and probably why drinking this every morning has been something I don't dread. It takes just find.
WHY DRINK SALT WATER? This routine helps aid in the hydration process and helps your body absorb the use the water that we drink when it is slightly salty. The salt in the water stimulates the saliva and aids in digestion of food later. It also replenishes electrolytes.
I am addicted now! Give it a try.
